Junior cornerback Tre’Davious White was announced as one of 16 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, the nation’s best defensive back, on Monday.
White is among four other Southeastern Conference nominees, including Vernon Hargreaves III (Florida), Mike Hilton (Ole Miss) and Eddie Jackson (Alabama).
White started six of LSU’s seven games this season, and attempts to join two other LSU defensive back’s as Thorpe Award winners — Patrick Peterson in 2010 and Morris Claiborne in 2011.
White, 22 tackles this season, is LSU’s team captain and punt returner, averaging 11.4 yards per punt return.
Three finalists will be announced on Monday, Nov. 23, and the award winner will be named at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 10 in Atlanta.
