MAC Cosmetics released their second collaboration with Miley Cyrus last week: the VIVA GLAM lipstick and lipglass. You might be thinking, “OK, big whoop. Another day, another dollar in the makeup industry.” But this product is beyond skin-deep.
MAC VIVA GLAM is a product line that donates all proceeds to the MAC AIDS Fund. Its mission is to serve people of all ages, races and sexes affected by HIV and AIDS.
It began in 1994, a time when AIDS was stigmatized as a disease only affecting homosexuals. The first collaboration was with dragqueen RuPaul.
“VIVA GLAM spokespeople are provocative, alternative and influential and reflect diverse communities,” the MAC website states.
MAC VIVA GLAM campaigns have partnered with celebrities like Elton John, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.
Considering these predecessors and their messages, Cyrus is the perfect choice for the latest spokesperson. Cyrus is a symbol for feminist and LGBT communities, and she’s often complimented and criticized for being outspoken.

But now, let’s talk makeup.
Cyrus’ psychedelic style is emulated in the products’ bright, red-orange hue. The matte, poppy-colored lipstick has a matching lipglass that contains flecks of pearl shimmer.
The lipstick retails at $17 for 0.1 ounces, and it applies smoothly with great pigmentation. The lipglass is $15 for 0.17 ounces. Both products feature limited edition packaging with Cyrus’ autograph.

Temptalia, an acclaimed beauty blog that reaches one million website visitors a month, gave the lipstick an A grade and the lipglass an A-.
If you’re looking for a lip product in this color, the MAC VIVA GLAM Miley Cyrus 2 lipstick or lip gloss is a highly recommended product that supports a great cause.
