Since “Latch” achieved No. 12 status on Billboard Hot 100 and coincidentally became the official-unofficial club banger of 2014, both Sam Smith’s and Disclosure’s careers skyrocketed and show no hint of slowing down.
With sold-out shows worldwide, it’s obvious that fans crave more collaborations between the three England natives — so Disclosure and Smith are bringing that to them.
Last week, the Disclosure sibling-duo Guy and Howard Lawrence collaborated with Smith once again for a cover of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” performed live on BBC Radio 1.
That’s right: Drake’s late-summer hit just got even better.
They kept the song true to its original form, the only real difference being Smith’s signature voice.
Despite the similarity, Disclosure and Smith’s collaborative style can still be recognized when covering another artist’s song, which is a real measure of the compatibility of the musicians.
This compatibility is displayed in their recent single “Omen,” which is from Disclosure’s upcoming album “Caracal.” The song is comparable to “Latch,” containing similar quick drum-machine beats, electro-pop sounds and distinct, high-pitched vocals that invite listeners to sing along.
“Omen” plays a similar role as “Latch,” being the party anthem for fans who want to loosen up and dance along.
And if “Omen” or any of Disclosure’s other collaborative efforts serve as judgement, fans can anticipate a killer album when “Caracal” is released on Friday.
The album will feature collaborations with other pop artists like Lorde and The Weeknd, giving fans of these artists something to look forward to as well. We’ll see how these collaborations measure up to that of Smith and Disclosure, who have set the bar high.
