Troye Sivan, a popular Australian YouTuber and actor returns with his second EP, “WILD,” after making his debut in 2014 with his “TRXYE” EP.
“WILD” includes six tracks and continues the previous EP’s trend of electro-pop-influenced music.
This album takes a slightly different approach than his debut, featuring artists Broods and Tkay Maidza, as well as multiple lyrics and other content teases on social media leading up to the release.
Fans can also interact with the album cover by uploading a personal photo to create their own art.
The opening track, which also is the title track “WILD,” introduces listeners to the record with an upbeat tune about a new relationship bordering on infatuation. Boasting lyrics like, “Cause when you look like that I’ve never ever wanted to be so bad,” it’s every teenage heartthrob’s anthem.
The second track, “BITE,” slows the tempo down slightly and takes on a more serious tone. It depicts someone at the mercy of their partner who wants to be the center of everything.
Following this is “FOOLS,” a track about not getting hopes up too high and questioning the relationship, saying, “I see quiet nights poured over ice and Tanqueray but everything is shattering and it’s my mistake.”
To switch up the theme, the first track with a feature, “EASE (feat. Broods)” appears. Sivan and Georgia Nott duet on this laid-back song as it tackles other elements such as anxiety and personal uncertainty, belting, “Every time I think I’m better, picking my head up, getting nowhere.”
The final tracks, “THE QUIET” and “DKLA (feat. Tkay Maidza)” describe the crumbling of the relationship the album began with, singing, “Now I’m left here in the dust with the taste of broken trust,” and also leaving a lingering question, “So what do I do now?”
Overall, Sivan’s second album is a success in regards to concept and staying aligned with his debut style.
“WILD” is an honest record that stands out from other pop hits we’re accustomed to hearing.
