The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals officially said in a letter that the state is no longer funding Planned Parenthood, last week.
Anti-abortion groups released video footage in July claiming that the organization illegally sells fetal tissues.
Planned Parenthood denied the accusations, but many Louisiana residents and lawmakers were not convinced.
Supporters of the organization are arguing that by cutting the many health care services that Planned Parenthood offers, the state will be negatively affected.
“To some of the Planned Parenthood users, when you cut that off, they don’t know where else to go,” Janice Betrece, LSU senior, said.
The state provided a list of recommended facilites that offer similar services as Planned Parenthood, but many argued that the facilities listed were “unrelated.”
“If it’s in areas that people might not be able to get to, that’s giving them false hope,” Betrece said.
Pro-life supporters are backing the government’s decision to cut the funds. The Louisiana Right to Life Federation created an online letter for anti-Planned Parenthood residents to sign and thank the governor for de-funding the organization.
Planned Parenthood is fighting back to restore funds, but currently the ruling still stands.
