LSU senior midfielder Natalia Gomez-Junco is the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the first time of her career, the league office announced Monday.
The defensive midfielder helped the Tigers’ defense hold Georgia and Marquette to four goals combined, while the Tigers poured on nine goals to defeat Georgia, 4-3, and Marquette, 5-1.
Gomez-Junco also was productive on the offensive end, netting a 25-yard free kick against Georgia, landing in the No. 8 slot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 on Thursday night.
She added a 79th minute goal from 20 yards out to give the Tigers the victory against Georgia, and she recorded her SEC-leading seventh assist of the season against Marquette on Sunday.
