New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson announced on Wednesday he will transfer the ownership of both franchises to his wife Gayle after his death.
Benson’s daughter, Renee Leblanc, and grandchildren, Ryan Leblanc and Rita Benson Leblanc, filed a lawsuit on Thursday claiming Benson was incompetent. Benson Leblanc was removed from the vice chairman of the board position of the organizations. Benson Leblanc was originally the successor of the organizations.
Benson released a letter to family stating he was not happy with the family situation. He also said that he wishes for no further contact with them. The family will not be allowed to enter any of the franchise facilities or games and the Benson Towers.
The Saints and Pelicans management will remain the same with Dennis Lauscha as president and Mickey Loomis as executive vice president/general manager.
Benson’s health has been declining over the past year. Despite his health, Benson and his wife will actively continue to represent the Saints and Pelicans in the league meeting.
