Many innocent lives lost again because a group of hot heads can’t have their way. Although French President Francois Hollande might not be too popular in his country, he has stepped up and responded to the killings in Paris with grief. That’s more than we can say about Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that a young girl in a crowded marketplace in Nigeria had a bomb strapped to her. This bombing planned by the terrorist group Boko Haram killed over 19 people, and dozens more were injured. These terrorists have killed over 2,000 people in the past week, but this has yet to be breaking news.
Where is the hourly coverage (there is none)? and where are the world leaders coming to save the day (they aren’t coming)? I first assumed the lack of coverage on the killings in Nigeria was the media being racist on the low. But, NOPE, not this time! For once in my life I can’t blame the media or race, we can blame President Jonathan for the lack of attention this tragedy is receiving. He did in fact address his regrets for the shootings in Paris, but failed to mention anything about the horrors taking place in his own country.
Could it have anything to do with the Nigerian election coming up in five weeks? He would rather stay out of anything that would lose him supporters. So, it’s not the media to blame this time; they don’t care about one country more than the other (at least not in this scenario). We can blame the lack of media coverage on the Nigerian President. It’s unfortunate to have a self-centered political leader at a tragic time like this.
