The new season of “Archer” wasted no time getting back into the routine of secret missions.
The episode begins by showing Archer in a trashed hotel room on an unknown island with a newly pierced ear, an almost empty bottle of Cobra Whiskey next to his bed and strippers in his shower.
He is awoken to a phone call from Mallory yelling at him for being gone for six weeks with no trace. He fled shortly after finding out that he’s the father of Lana’s baby Abbiejean.
Following his arguments with both Mallory and Lana, Mallory tells Archer of his first freelance mission: to destroy an American spy plane that crashed in Borneo after retrieving a computer from the island.
Archer quickly boards a plane so he can parachute into the territory, complaining the whole time that there aren’t any mini-bottles of alcohol available.
Upon arriving in Borneo, Archer runs into Sato, a Japanese soldier who’s been on the island since WWII and is still convinced that the U.S. is at war with Japan to this day.
After almost killing each other, they set off together to locate the plane with Archer toting Sato around in a similar manner that Frodo did with Gollum in “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.”
After overcoming several obstacles together and teaching Sato of the current relationship between the U.S. and Japan, Archer completes the mission successfully and even helps Sato find his way back home, a moment that’s very emotional for both of them.
Back at the headquarters, Pam, who’s gained back all of her weight after her brief cocaine addiction in season five, Cheryl and the rest of the crew unveil the new office renovations to Mallory.
Instead of spending the money on actually renovating the space, they use it to buy a hologram and install a secret spa room.
Mallory is left to mourn the fact that she doesn’t really own the office of her dreams, and Archer returns to the company casually, which is currently unnamed but under new employment by the CIA.
