University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan suspended Greek events on campus after an article published by Rolling Stone accused fraternity members of rape.
After the story was discredited, Sullivan reinstated Greek social activities with one exception: New regulations that will prevent sexual abuse and binge drinking. Could this reaction be a possible domino effect for other Greek organizations across the nation?
LSU Greek student Courtney Mccauley says she disagrees. “I never really worry about it, I always feels safe.”
LSU Greek Life Director Angela Guillory stated that she won’t change any rules for LSU Greek organizations but will focus on educating students about sexual violence.
“We are having an executive meeting to create awareness. So when we talk about sexual assault, people know where to go,” Guillory said.
While LSU Greek Life is making minor changes, The University of Virginia’s new regulations include guest lists for parties and require sober fraternity members to guard bedrooms to prevent sexual assault.
