Monday, Jan. 12, Fletcher Sanders, 25, was arrested for selling a pair of LSU football cleats and gloves on eBay from LSU’s win against Ole Miss last season.
LSUPD spokesman Capt. Cory Lalonde said LSUPD was contacted by LSU football equipment personnel about the items for sale a few weeks prior.
“The items issued out to the football players is basically still property of the football team,” Lalonde said.
Investigators found Sanders ran the eBay account, and Lalonde said when Sanders was questioned he said he got the equipment from an LSU football player.
When pressed further, Sanders refused to tell investigators who gave him the cleats and gloves, Lalonde said.
LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette said the team is conducting an internal investigation to see if a player gave his equipment to Sanders, and the team is doing everything it can to aid in the investigation.
Bonnette added coach Les Miles is aware of the incident, but is on the road recruiting.
Investigators are still looking into the situation to find out how Sanders obtained the gear and who he sold it to.
“It’s not something that we routinely come across,” Lalonde said. “It’s not something that we as a police department are going to be specifically looking for.”
