Six months after the University launched its tobacco-free policy, Virginia legislator Del. Rob Krupicka (D-Alexandria) is proposing a bill raising taxes on tobacco to fund higher education, The Washington Post reports.
Krupicka’s bill would increase the state’s cigarette tax from $0.30 per pack to $2, which he estimates would bring the state about $500 million in revenue.
Virginia’s current cigarette tax is among the lowest in the nation.
