The LSU women’s basketball team returned to the PMAC in style with a 70-41 victory against Southeastern Conference rival Ole Miss on Thursday night.
In the first half, the Lady Tigers (11-9, 5-3 SEC) dominated on both ends of the floor. For the second time in league play, LSU held an opponent to less than 20 points in the first half, allowing the Rebels (14-7, 4-4 SEC) to score only 19 points.
Freshman guard Jenna Deemer led the Lady Tigers with 12 points in the first period. For the second straight game, junior guard Danielle Ballard scored just four points in the first half, but she notched three assists. The Lady Tigers got each other involved, tallying 10 assists in the first alone, despite averaging a conference-low 11 assists per game.
The Lady Tigers’ offensive fireworks continued in the second half as Deemer finished with a career-high 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting. LSU spread the ball around for 17 assists.
Defensively, LSU continued to dominate in the second half. The Lady Tigers held the second-leading scorer in the conference senior forward Tia Faleru, who averages 15.6 points per game, to only five points and seven rebounds.
