DJ Strangelove chats with rock goddess and Americana queen Molly Taylor and her guitarist Joshua to talk her latest single “Goodbye,” a record in the making, Conway Twitty, a tour later this year, and the local music scene of Baton Rouge. Molly also played a couple new tracks from her upcoming album for us in-studio: “Lay Me Down” and “Waiting’ On the Devil”
You can listen to the interview below and follow along with videos, tracks, and facts I provided for your pleasure. Don’t forget to watch her kick ass in-studio performances under the audio clip.
Molly Taylor is playing at Spanish Moon on Saturday, January 31, 2015. This is your last chance to see her until her record drops later this year.
1. At 0:10 into the interview, we discuss her latest single “Goodbye” released in October 2014. Listen below.
2. She then mentions recording “Goodbye” at the Legendary Noise Floor, a co-op space dedicated to the creative community of mid-city Baton Rouge.
Their Facebook description states, “In December of 2013 Several local musicians came together to rent the space in mid city with hopes to have a communal space to create their own art as well as have a space in which they could share and document ideas. Throughout the first half of 2014 the purpose of the space has expanded to host arts events and small concerts. The hope is to be a nexus of creative energy while functioning as a work shop to create art and generate content in this “artist as content provider” focused age.” You can visit their Facebook page HERE. They are located on 3774 Government St, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806.
3. At 1:10 into the interview, Molly reveals her grandmother’s love for Conway Twitty. If you’re not familiar with this country classic, listen to “Hello Darlin'” and “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” featuring Loretta Lynn below.
4. At 3:45 into the interview, I ask Molly about her jewelry line Beneath the Bark. You can see her beautiful handmade creations from reclaimed wood on the Facebook page or her Etsy page.

5. She also mentions her partner, Andrew Moran, a woodworker and Furniture Designer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He runs Mid City Handmade: “Located on the outskirts of downtown Baton Rouge, Andrew Moran’s studio strives to create timeless, one of a kind pieces exclusively from sustainably harvested materials. Working with native species, we harvest, cut and dry all of our own material. Each piece is handcrafted with care, highlighting the wood’s natural beauty; crack, knots, live edges and all.” This description is found on the Mid City Handmade site. You can visit the site HERE and check out the Facebook page HERE. The Mid City Handmade gallery is open to the public by appointment.
