Following the selection of LSU junior shortstop Alex Bregman – the No. 2 overall pick – six other Tigers were taken in the first 10 rounds of Major League Baseball draft.
Junior centerfielder Andrew Stevenson was the only other Tiger taken on Day 1, which comprises the first and second rounds. Stevenson was chosen by the Washington Nationals with the 58th pick in the second round late Monday night.
On Day 2, senior catcher Kade Scivicque was the next LSU player to hear his name called. The second-team All-American was chosen by the Detroit Tigers with the 130th pick in the fourth round.
Senior second baseman Jared Foster was taken a round later, going to Los Angeles Angles with the 165th pick. Although Foster has been the Tigers everyday second baseman, the Angels drafted him as a right fielder.
In the ninth round, three Tigers were chosen within 16 picks. Left-handed pitcher Zac Person will join Bregman, taken by the Astros with the 259th pick. With the 264th pick, right fielder Mark Laird was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies, and third baseman Conner Hale was chosen by the Seattle Mariners with the 275th pick.
Two LSU signees were also taken on Day 2 and are both expected to sign with their respective professional organization. Right-handed pitcher Jacob Taylor, a Picayune, Mississippi, native, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 127th pick in the fourth round. With the 235th pick of the eighth round, shortstop Mitch Piatnik, a Winter Haven, Florida, native, was taken by the Cincinnati Reds.
