Tarell Alvin McCraney’s “The Brothers Size” opened Wednesday night at the Studio Theatre in the Music and Dramatic Arts building.
The play, which was first presented by McCraney when he was a third-year student at the Yale School of Drama, focuses on two brothers, Ogun and Oshoosi Size. Ogun has dedicated his life to running his own auto-repair shop, while Oshoosi has just returned from prison and is complacent with his lack of ambition.
“The Brothers Size” explores the elusiveness of freedom, whether from a racist justice system or the limits of one’s own family. The play uses its Louisiana bayou setting to this effect, while also drawing inspiration from West African mythology.
“The Brothers Size” will run until April 1. Performances begin at 7:30 on March 23, 24 and 28-30. Two matinees will be held March 25 and April 1, both at 2 p.m.
