Forty-five years of survey data from the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California Los Angeles showed that students entering their freshman year of college are more concerned with their finances now than ever before.
When the national survey began in the ’70s, about 20 percent of students said a financial offer played a role in how they chose a college. In the most recent survey, that number doubled.
The University First Year Experience offers a program to freshmen called First Year Finances, according to FYE. The program, offered through the Office of Student Life and Enrollment, helps students navigate financial aid documents, as well as build responsible budgets.
