Dowtown Development currently has seven projects under construction amounting to about 641 million dollars.
Downtown Development Project Director Gabe Vicknair said downtown construction is important because all great cities have a strong downtown that attracts people and industries.
Downtown Development is planning for the Downtown Greenery. This project would provide a 3-mile pathway to promote more eco friendly downtown baton rouge.
Vicknair described the Baton Rouge downtown community as the face of the city, and being important to residents because it is a common place for everything.
Construction has also begun on Repentance Park. Downtown Development wants to create an area that connects downtown areas, creates a green space, and is multi-dimensional.
Within the month, renovations to the Tessier building, which is the oldest known European building in Baton Rouge, work will be completed. The building will now include office spaces and residential units.
A Hampton Inn and Main street housing units will be completed within the year.
