International studies senior Courtney George said she brought cardboard, markers and scissors to LSU’s United Students Against Sweatshops rally in case attendees wanted to demonstrate.
Students never demonstrated. Instead, they created an action plan to campaign and recruit students through awareness, people and pressure. Although the meeting was advertised as a rally, students merely gathered around a common cause.
United Students Against Sweatshops Regional Coordinator Billy Yates informed students about class raps and teach-ins to recruit and inform other University students.
A class rap is when one student goes into a classroom and talks to student about an organization or event.
National delegate for United Students Against Sweatshops Biance Hinc-Foley said LSU is important in their cause because the University is one of the largest collegiate apparel suppliers in the South.
The University’s United Students Against Sweatshops plan on having panels with students, and later staging protests to get the administration’s attention.
