LSU sophomore right-hander Kevin Gausman was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week after turning in a dominant performance against Michigan on Friday night.
Gausman fanned a career-high 11 batters and allowed only two hits in eight scoreless innings in the Tigers 6-0 win to push his record to 4-0 on the season.
At one point, Gausman retired 19 consecutive Wolverines, including a stretch of six straight strikeouts in the second and third innings.
The 6-foot-4 ace has put together an impressive start to his sophomore campaign. In 27.1 innings, Gausman has a miniscule 1.32 ERA and has only allowed 22 base runners while striking out 31.
This is the second week in a row an LSU player has been recognized by the conference, as junior first baseman Mason Katz was named the SEC Player of the Week last week.
