In the United States, as many as 10 million people have an eating disorder like anorexia, bulimia or binge eating disorder.
After the break-up of one of her first serious relationships, Business Management senior Laurel Keys started obsessing over food.
She said in a short amount of time she lost 15 pounds and bought her first scale. She said she weighed herself multiple times a day and started working out obsessively. She sought help from LSU mental health services, who suggested she go into their eating disorder outpatient program.
Although she thinks the program improved her relationship with food, she said she still has some anxiety about her body.
“It’s something you’re never cured from,” she said. “It’s just kind of like what stage of recovery you’re in at that point.”
