The University Court ruled Tuesday that a Student Government Senate resolution was unconstitutional.
The resolution that was passed two weeks ago urged the Student Code of Conduct Committee to revise its code and to specifically recommend two of the eight students to be on the committee. The resolution recommended University Center for Freshman Year Senator Tyler Loga and College of Engineering Senator Karla Frias to the committee.
The resolution was found in conflict of the LSU Code of Student Conduct and the LSU SG Rules of Order, according to the verdict.
It was also deemed unconstitutional after not suspending “the rules properly according to the Student Senate minutes of the ninth legislative week,” according to the verdict.
The Court provided a relief to the resolution by suggesting the Student Code of Conduct Committee be comprised of three SG members, one from each branch, and one non-SG member who would be appointed by the SG president.
The Senate will also change its rules of order to align with its Constitution, according to the verdict.
