Former LSU golfer John Peterson has been named the 2011 Tiger Athletic Foundation Male Athlete of the Year, the University announced Tuesday.
Peterson received the award Sunday at the TAF Academic Excellence Gala. He was recognized for a 2011 senior season where he became the third Tiger to win an NCAA individual championship.
The three-time collegiate All-American broke a 70-year individual winless streak for LSU, who last had a male individual champion when Earl Stewart won the title in 1941.
Peterson was also recognized as one of eight recipients of LSU’s Director’s Cup, joining Austin Gutgsell, Smylie Kaufman, Ken Looper, Andrew Loupe, Clayton Rotz, Curtis Thompson and Sang Yi.
Peterson is currently playing on the PGA Tour. He recently made his second-straight PGA cut in the Mayakoba Golf Classic, where he finished in a tie for 55th place in a field of 132 players.
