Bon Iver is the alternative band brainchild of American indie folk singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. The band may have humble beginnings hearkening back to a secluded Wisconsin cabin, but the group’s profile is on the rise after winning 2012 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album.
Bon Iver’s discography is limited to just two albums, “For Emma, Forever Ago” and “Bon Iver,” but the band has become a critical darling with positive reviews from Metacritic, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork Media, which ranked “Bon Iver” as the No. 1 album of 2011.
Acoustic guitar riffs season sweet, sincere lyrics in many Bon Iver tracks, including “Skinny Love,” which exudes the kind of folksy charm that has made Vernon and his band famous. Bon Iver’s sauntering songs relay at a pace that soothes rather than energizes, an aspect of its music which lends itself to genuine, emotional live performances.
