The Student Government Senate elected Music and Dramatic Arts Senator Meredith Westbrook as speaker Thursday during the first meeting for the new administration. Westbrook succeeds Aaron Caffarel as speaker.
She ran unopposed, though five senators ran for the pro tempore position.
Former University Center for Advising and Counseling Senator Lane Pace topped his four opponents for the position.
Thursday’s meeting was a continuation of the Senate’s regular Wednesday session, which was recessed after the newly elected senators, President Taylor Cox and Vice President Carrie Hebert were sworn in.
During a teary farewell speech, Caffarel said the Senate will be in good hands with Westbrook.
