The University Faculty Senate heard Industrial Engineering professor Fereydoun Aghazadeh’s proposal for a four-day school week Monday. Aghazadeh said this would be better for time efficiency, and would give professors uninterrupted Fridays to research.
Academic Affairs is currently researching whether the University has enough classrooms for this idea to be feasible.
Professors opposed to the idea worry about the possibility of labeling LSU as even more of a party school. They are also concerned about having to stay late at night to teach.
In other business, Communication assistant professor Graham Bodie expressed his wish to ban cellphone use in academic areas of campus. The Senate concluded it did not see how this policy would be enforceable, and will take up the discussion again in May.
The Senate also voted Monday to re-elect English professor Kevin Cope as president, Animal Sciences professor Kenneth McMillin as vice president, and food science professor Joan King as secretary.
