Tiger Stadium hosted Bayou Country Superfest on Sunday for a second straight day under slightly cloudy skies and hot, humid weather.
Some fans attended the third-annual event for the first time, but many were returning to spend their memorial day weekend reveling in Tiger Stadium.
“We decided to come both days,” said Chipp Burr of Denham Springs. “We got here Friday to set up our RV for the weekend. Carrie Underwood is who I was most excited to see, but it’s always fun to come to Superfest and spend the weekend watching some good country artists.”
It wasn’t just the main stage that attracted crowds of country fanatics. Adjacent to the stadium stood Fan Fest, comprised of several tents and food stands along with the Bud Light Stage. The extra stage hosted smaller acts such as Winfield’s Locket and CJ Solar Band through the weekend.
But it was the meet-and-greet tent that attracted the largest groups of fans. Several artists took time to take pictures and sign autographs.
“I got to meet Jerrod Niemann yesterday,” said New Orleans resident Ashley Frey. “I think it is awesome that he took some time before his performance to take pictures with fans. I already changed my profile picture to the one he took with me.”
Country music was not the only Louisiana cultural staple on display. Thousand of fans lined the streets from the Indian Mounds to Alex Box Stadium with pop-up tents and beer coolers, showing that tailgating is not limited to football season. Their tents echoed many of the same songs fans would hear later that night inside Tiger Stadium.
As the sun dipped below the horizon Sunday, fans filed into the Tiger Stadium for the final night of this year’s Bayou Country Superfest. Fans from out of town showcased their college football loyalties by sporting crimson and white shirts. The tide fans were immediately welcomed to Death Valley with chants of “Tiger Bait.”
Arkansas-native Joe Nichols opened the night’s event on the main stage, followed by Sara Evans and Dierks Bentley.
In the second to last performance, crowd favorite and award-winning artist Jason Aldean took the stage, greeted by the roar of the stadium. He entertained the crowd with several songs from his newest album “My Kinda Party.”
Rascal Flatts performed under the lights of Tiger Stadium in the final performance of the third-annual superfest, leaving fans hungry for more.
“This was a fantastic weekend for me and my family,” said Stewart Gordon, who traveled 12 hours from Oklahoma City. “I would really like to take another vacation here next year. Being able to watch so many huge musicians in a historic stadium is something that is one of a kind.”
