ANGOLA, La. (AP) — The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office says an East Baton Rouge Parish public defender tried to smuggle marijuana into the state prison in Angola.
Sheriff’s Maj. Archer Lee tells The Advocate (http://bit.ly/w6nWeh) that 62-year-old Nelvil Hollingsworth of Zachary was booked Saturday on one count of bringing contraband into a penal institution. He says Hollingsworth had 5.2 grams of marijuana in the lining of his sport coat.
Angola Warden Burl Cain says guards found the marijuana while searching Hollingsworth at the front gate. He says Hollingsworth had scheduled a visit with Barry Edge, one of five inmates accused of killing a prison guard during an escape attempt in 1999, and one of two yet to be tried.
A call to Hollingsworth’s home on Sunday was not immediately returned.
