The Tiger Athletic Foundation gave unanimous approval last week to proceed with the expansion of Tiger Stadium, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva told The Advocate.
Alleva said the project still needs approval from the LSU Board of Supervisors and the Board of Regents.
“The ball is rolling, and we’re going to try to make this happen,” Alleva said.
The plan calls for building a freestanding structure that would wrap around the south end of the stadium and connect the existing upper decks. The addition would include a lower level containing 4,000 club seats, two levels of 60 suites seating 24 people each and a 1,500-seat upper deck.
The addition would increase the stadium’s capacity to nearly 99,500, making it the third largest stadium in the Southeastern Conference. Alleva said the project could be completed in time for the 2014 season and “hopefully 2015 for sure.”
Alleva did not say the total projected cost of the expansion, but said TAF officials believe the project will pay for itself.
