[Clip of Daigle singing]
That is the voice of Lauren Daigle. Daigle is not only a sophomore in Child and Family Studies here at LSU, she also has participated in two seasons of “American Idol” — including the current season of 2012. She first participated in Season 9 when she was 17 years old. Although she received an initial unanimous vote, she was quickly cut from the show in the following rounds.
This season, with two more years of maturity and confidence under her belt, Daigle lasted right until the top 24 round. Regarding this accomplishment, Daigle thanks her newly found purpose in anti-human trafficking activism.
In an interview for The Daily Reveille, Daigle said of her first attempt at “American Idol” stardom that her main focus was just the act of singing. This season however, she sang with the purpose of activism in mind. While Daigle was just short of quote-unquote “‘American Idol’ Fame”, she has the fortune of singing for her local church and her own band, “Ask the Thomas Bros.”
While competing in future “American Idol” seasons is a possibility for Daigle, she is happy with singing for something bigger and better than “fame and glory.” Daigle sings for activism in a cause that she believes in — she sings with the hope of having a world free of human-trafficking.
