Former LSU running back and Heisman Trophy finalist Charles Alexander will appear on the 2012 Football Bowl Subdivision ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation announced Tuesday.
Alexander is one of 76 players and eight coaches on the ballot. The inductees will be announced on May 15 and inducted on Dec. 4.
“It’s an enormous honor to just be on the ballot when you think that more than 4.86 million people have played college football,” said NFF President & CEO Steven Hatchell in a news release.
Alexander holds LSU records for most rushes in a game, most yards in a season and most yards gained per game in a season. He earned first-team All-American honors in 1977 and 1978.
The Galveston, Texas, native was a first-round draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 1979 and played seven seasons in the NFL, reaching Super Bowl XVI in 1982.
