The walls of North Gate Tavern were more adorned than usual Monday night when the Chimes Street bar hosted Drip!, an art show and market for local artists. Member of LSU Painter’s League and painting and drawing sophomore Logan McManus said Drip! was formerly a regular event at North Gate Tavern, but the event lost appeal after repetitively featuring the same artists.
McManus contacted North Gate Tavern owner Dusty Cooper and said he wanted to revitalize the show. The event brought in so much interest that several artists had to be turned away. McManus said he hopes to have an entire new crop of artists and work next month for another installment of Drip!.
At last night’s event, ten artists displayed works of mixed media, with some artists having work in multiple media. Ceramics junior Amanda Songy displayed handcrafted jewelry on a sculpture she had also created. Songy said that she creates a new collection for every show she participates in. According to a sign next to Songy’s work, all of her proceeds go toward spoiling her son.
