The LSU softball team continued its hot streak Saturday with two wins.
The Tigers (7-4) started off their day against South Alabama. LSU came out swinging, notching four runs in the first inning.
South Alabama responded with four runs in the top of the second inning, but senior pitcher Brittany Mack silenced the Jaguars for the rest of the day.
Senior designated player Cassie Trosclair sent an RBI double to left-center field in the fourth inning and the Tigers never looked back, going on to win 5-4.
LSU took the field later in the afternoon against McNeese State. The Cowgirls came in with five straight wins, including upsets of Oregon State, No. 1 Arizona State and No. 17 Houston, whom they beat twice.
The Lady Tigers stopped McNeese’s run of hot play with a one-hit performance from junior pitcher Rachele Fico.
Fico retired 19 straight batters from the end of the first inning until she gave up a walk in the seventh.
Senior catcher Morgan Russell powered the Tigers’ offense, knocking home an RBI single in the fourth inning and hitting her second career home run to give LSU some insurance in the sixth inning.
The Lady Tigers went on to win, 2-0.
LSU faces South Alabama on Sunday at 3 p.m. before finishing out the weekend against Alcorn State at 5:30 p.m.
