After a slow start, No. 9 LSU took a 20-10 lead going into halftime against No. 21 Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs struck first, going 74 yards in 10 plays. A Dak Prescott 9-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Marcus Green capped off the scoring drive for the Bulldogs.
LSU responded on its next drive going 48 yards on 12 plays. The drive stalled in the red zone and the Tigers were forced to attempt a 28-yard field goal. Drew Alleman converted to leave the score at 7-3 going into the 2nd quarter.
After a Mississippi State 3-and-out, LSU had another drive stall in the red zone, leading to an Alleman field goal that put LSU up 10-7.
On Mississppi State’s next possession, sophomore running back Nick Griffin fumbled a pitch by junior quarterback Tyler Russell, which LSU’s junior linebacker Lamin Barrow recovered at the Bulldog 21 yard line.
The Tigers were finally able to punch the ball into the end zone with junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger finding junior wide receiver Jarvis Landry for a 19-yard touchdown pass.
Mississippi State was the next to score, driving 45 yards on 9 plays, but were forced to settle for a 47-yard field goal by freshman kicker Devon Bell with 48 seconds left on the clock.
LSU then showed off its 2-minute offense, driving 71 yards on only 4 plays. The drive ended with a touchdown, as Mettenberger found junior running back Spencer Ware out of the backfield for a 20-yard touchdown pass.
