Jeremy Hill’s two touchdowns lead Tigers to 23-21 victory

Freshman running back Jeremy Hill towed the No. 9 LSU football team 124 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns en route to a 23-21 victory over No. 3 South Carolina on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.
With LSU leading 14-13, Hill took a handoff from the 50-yard line and didn’t stop until he reached the end zone, digging a nine-point dagger into the Gamecocks. South Carolina would score after the touchdown, but they were unable to reach field goal range when they got the ball back with 35 seconds left. Hill scored the Tigers’ other touchdown by capping the Tigers’ opening drive of the third quarter.
LSU’s offensive line had obviously gelled a bit since the loss to Florida. It overcame the loss of veteran offensive linemen Alex Hurst, senior, and Josh Williford, junior, to facilitate a ground game that gained yards and allow one sack to the Southeastern Conference’s best pass rush.
Senior kicker Drew Alleman tacked on two field goals in the second half to total three for the game.
The LSU offense outgained South Carolina in yardage 178-69 in the first half, but its red zone and ball retention problems assured the Gamecocks a 7-3 lead at the break.
