LSU coach Paul Mainieri confirmed Wednesday that junior pitcher Joe Broussard will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday and miss the entire 2013 season.

The Holy Cross product tallied a 4-1 record over 19 appearances last season, striking out 37 hitters over 34 innings.

Mainly a midweek starter or middle reliever last season, the Gretna native was in contention for the third starting spot this season after the departure of ace Kevin Gausman to the Baltimore Orioles organization.

Mainieri also confirmed that former St. Paul’s star Christian Trent was dismissed for a violation of team rules and will transfer to Delgado Community College this season.

Trent, the 2011 New Orleans Metro Pitcher of the Year, did not make any appearances or record any stats for the Tigers last season.
