The LSU women’s tennis team started off its season with a strong showing this weekend at the Longhorn Invitational held at the University of Texas.
Freshman Ella Taylor advanced to the singles semifinals before dropping straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to Annat Rabinovich of Texas.
Junior Ariel Morton, sophomore Mary Jeremiah and freshman Caroline Hudson all lost their singles quarterfinal matches. All three players moved on to the consolation semifinals, but none advanced any further.
LSU coach Julia Sell said she was pleased with her team’s competitiveness and was thankful to finally see her players in action.
“It was great to finally have the chance to compete and apply what we’ve learned in a real match,” Sell said. “We still need to tighten up some of our fundamentals, but I am very happy with their progress thus far.
The Lady Tigers did not compete in doubles at the tournament.
