After adding assistant David Patrick to his staff in late June, first-year LSU basketball coach Johnny Jones raved about his presence internationally.
Jones and the Tigers have even more reason to brag on Monday when Melbourne, Australia native Deng Deng committed to LSU.
Deng gave the Tigers his pledge for the 2013-2014 recruiting class, giving the Tigers the length they so desperately need inside.
The 6-foot-8, 215 pound Deng starred at Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City before committing to Long Beach State last fall.
After running into trouble with the NCAA Clearinghouse that forbade him to enroll with the 49ers, Deng moved to Lee College, where he spent the spring semester of the last academic year.
Patrick, who grew up in Melbourne, was vital in recruiting former Saint Mary’s star and Australia native Patty Mills, who now plays for the San Antonio Spurs.
Deng will have three years of eligibility remaining when he joins Jones’ squad for the 2013-2014 season.
