The LSU men’s golf team will hope to build on its fourth-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic last week as it heads to the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate tournament in Birmingham, Ala.
The Tigers will tee off Monday and play through Tuesday at the tournament, which includes No. 15 North Florida and North Texas, who is receiving votes in the latest NCAA poll.
LSU coach Chuck Winstead said he believes the keys to success in the Tigers second outing lie in the hands of two upperclassmen.
“I think [junior] Andrew Presley needs to finish more closely to the top,” Winstead said. “We’ll have [junior] Smylie Kaufman in the fifth spot this week, and we’ll see if the scores he shoots this week will help the team. We’re still trying to figure out what our best lineup is.”
The Tigers will send Presley, Kaufman, sophomores Curtis Thompson and Stewart Jolly and freshman Zach Wright to Shoal Creek Country Club. Sophomore Myles Lewis will compete at the tournament as an individual.
