The University’s Emergency Operations Center announced that all classes, events and University activities will be closed through Thursday due to Hurricane Isaac. This includes the LSU Child Care Center and the LSU Laboratory School.
All residential halls and campus apartments will remain open, the EOC said in an emergency response report.
The LSU Emergency Operations Center is advising students and University staff on campus to stay inside until Thursday morning, according to a University Relations broadcast email.
Students are asked to “shelter in place,” which means to stay indoors until University officials deem it safe to go outside.
The shelter in place order was put in place at 7 a.m. today and is expected to last until 7 a.m. Thursday because Baton Rouge is predicted to receive sustained winds of more than 35 miles per hour.
“The LSU community is asked to take this advisory seriously, as high winds can create dangerous flying debris, downed power lines and other hazardous conditions,” the email said. “The LSU EOC’s top priority is the safety of all students, faculty and staff.”
