NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (AP) – Assumption Parish officials have called a mandatory evacuation for all 23,000 residents as Hurricane Isaac approaches Louisiana. They’ve also imposed a curfew and banned alcohol sales.
Both the curfew and alcohol sale ban start at midnight Tuesday, and will continue until further notice.
A news release says a shelter of last resort is open at Belle Rose Middle School. It won’t have food, water, cots or other items: people must bring everything they need.
All Assumption Parish schools are closed Wednesday and Thursday.
Parish officials say they’re expecting sustained winds of 50 to 70 mph, gusting to 85 mph. Tropical storm force winds are expected by 6 a.m. Wednesday and expected to last until Wednesday afternoon. Officials say they expect conditions to return to normal by 7 a.m. Thursday.
