After a week of speculation surrounding the football future of former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, it appears the Honey Badger won’t suit up anywhere this fall.
According to a report from WVUE-TV in New Orleans, Mathieu’s adoptive father, Tyrone Mathieu says the embattled cornerback has entered the Right Step recovery center in Houston, and is being mentored by former NBA star and recovered drug addict John Lucas.
Rumors swirled that Mathieu would either enroll at LSU and try to rejoin the football team in 2013, or transfer to an FCS school where he would be immediately eligible to play.
A source told The Daily Reveille that Mathieu was on McNeese State’s campus and met with head coach Matt Viator last Friday – the same day he was dismissed by LSU head coach Les Miles.
Nicholls State was also considered a viable option – but a Nicholls spokesperson told The Daily Reveille that the program had not heard from Mathieu as of Wednesday.
