Student Government’s first senate meeting of the semester wasn’t filled with legislation or initiatives, but instead with words from SG president Cody Wells urging the senators to fight budget cuts.
“There has got to be a student movement and we cannot afford for students to be apathetic anymore,” Wells said.
Wells guessed the $8.1 million cuts to the University would impact all students.
“It’s not only going to affect us, but it’s going to affect our kids… This will set us a decade back,” he said.
He said SG would send “a statement to the Capitol… and whoever else has hands on our money” to keep higher education a priority.
Wells promised to bring “a new game plan” to the senate at next week’s meeting.
“I don’t care about the Together LSU push card anymore… The most important issue to me right now… is our financial situation,” he said.
