The Student Government website will receive a facelift this semester in an effort to make it more user-friendly and accessible.
The current website features a few applications, each branch’s member list, constitutions, bylaws and outdated “Featured News” stories about the winter break holiday shuttle and minutes of meetings.
“Our website isn’t really helpful right now,” said Alexis Sarver, SG director of communication.
Jason Follis, SG website director, hopes to change that.
“We want to make it a lot more usable,” he said.
Follis is volunteering with graphic designer Charlie Buller and LSU IT to create three “completely different pages” for each branch. An executive head will maintain the central portal, but each branch will be responsible for updates.
“I’m very happy that each branch can control its own website,” Sarver said. “It’s going to allow updates to be as easy as 1-2-3.”
Students can expect to see current legislative documents, executive highlights and judicial updates without getting lost in the links, Follis said.
Though the deadline is not set in stone, SG hopes to launch the improved website April 1.
“It needs to be done. It’s 2012,” Sarver said.
