More than a thousand supporters of the national pro-life movement spanned downtown Baton Rouge on Saturday morning to march to the State Capitol in protest of legalized abortion.
The protest took place on the eve of the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the controversial Supreme Court cased that in 1973 legalized a woman’s right to have an abortion.
Numerous families, students and religious groups marched down Fourth Street, congregating at the steps of the Capitol as Louisiana Senator David Vitter and others spoke in favor of pro-life legislation.
Opposition to the march was sparse, with only a small number of pro-choice activists counter-protesting.
Read Monday’s edition of The Daily Reveille for more about the statewide and nationwide movements.
