Student Government and Freshman Leadership Council are already preparing to host up to 800 high school students March 3 for the second annual Flagship Showcase, a high school retreat that showcases the University while providing leadership development.
“It’s completely changing this year. There’s a lot of leadership training,” said Alli Robison, SG director of First Year Experience.
The retreat will include presentations from six campus departments, a campus tour and small group leadership training led by an SG member and an FLC member.
“This year we’re focusing more on leadership development as a whole. Last year we were focusing just on Student Government as a whole,” said Emily Landry, SG chair of External Affairs and co-director of the Flagship Showcase.
Letters were sent to 200 Louisiana high schools, inviting four students to participate in the retreat.
“It’s all geared toward motivating the students. No matter what background they have, they can come to college. A lot of people get discouraged with [the University’s size],” Robison said.
