University students are part of a small number in the United States who can take a survey that could potentially connect them to employers at Microsoft, IKEA, Nestle and other prominent companies.
A Career Services broadcast e-mail sent to students at the beginning of the semester informed recipients of a survey that could yield internships and scholarships. The University is among less than 10 percent of U.S. universities asked to participate.
A global employer branding firm, Universum, conducts the survey. Amelia Webb, university relations coordinator for Universum, said LSU was chosen for the survey because employers show great interest in recruiting LSU students.
“With the help of career centers, we work to increase communication and streamline the relationship between employers and ideal talents,” Webb said.
Universum partners with many Ivy League institutions across the nation like Columbia University and Penn State, along with fellow SEC schools like the University of Alabama and the University of Mississippi, Webb said.
In the survey, students provided employers with anonymous information that assists employers’ recruiting efforts at each university. Webb said information is also given back to Career Services so they can better gauge students’ future work interests.
Career Services also receives information that compares the aspirations and goals of University students to those across the nation, she said.
After completing the survey, students are provided with numerous resources for career development and chances to get internships. Webb said more than 2,000 University students had already participated as of Monday.
