University students will have good luck this year, according to the characteristics of the Chinese Dragon.
The Chinese culture ushered in the Year of the Dragon during Monday’s celebrations of the Chinese New Year, called Spring Festival in China. The holiday is also called the Lunar New Year for Vietnamese and Korean students, in reference to the first new moon of 2012.
One part of the New Year celebration is the “lion dance,” in which performers wear a lion costume and mimic the animal’s movements. The White Crane Kung Fu Studio, a local dance group, performed lion dances Saturday at Dream Barrie Café, located off South Sherwood Forest Boulevard, and other local restaurants. The presentation was directed by Sifu Lou Illar, an experienced martial artist and Baton Rouge resident.
