As a golfer steps up to the tee, the winds begin to wail, the fairway appears to narrow and the hole looks farther away. The daunting hole seems impossible.
The toughest courses are the ones in which everything comes into play. Short game, long game, weather, hazard play, whether it’s one thing or another, the odds seem to be stacked against the golfer.
“Every course, you have to go in with a different mentality,” said LSU senior golfer Austin Gutgsell. “[At the University Club] you have to hit long irons a little better. [At] Sawgrass, you have to hit it well off the tees and around the greens. Every place has its niche to there.”
Yi said his most challenging hole was at Sawgrass, referencing the difficulty of No. 2 at the Ponte Verde course.
