Peter Hans, current vice chairman of the UNC Board of Governors, was named chairman on June 15. He will replace Chairwoman Hannah Gage on July 1.
“Becoming chairman is an enormous responsibility,” Hans told The News and Observer.
As chairman, Hans’ main task is to manage the system’s resources during a torrid economic climate, all while controlling the cost of tuition.
In addition to his tasks on the Board, Hans is a senior policy advisor for the law firm of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. He also has a history of serving on the State Board of Community Colleges. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1991.
“I think that it’s important for education to remain out of the political fray,” Hans told The News and Observer. “The University of North Carolina should be above and beyond partisan politics. That has been our tradition, and it will continue to be so.” Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/06/15/2139470/peter-hans-elected-new-chairman.html#storylink=cpy Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/06/15/2139470/peter-hans-elected-new-chairman.html#storylink=cpy Read more here: http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/06/15/2139470/peter-hans-elected-new-chairman.html#storylink=cpy
